E01 — Pallas Model Shootout¶
A real run: 8 models against 5 security-benchmark challenges (BAC/IDOR-style
tasks, labeled 021, 005, 033, 016, 028), independently verified — a flag
had to actually be captured for a SOLVE, not just claimed.
Provenance
This run was produced separately from this course's own tooling, not generated by HarnessBench — it's included here as real data to analyze, not as a demo of any one tool in this repo.

t = model turns. Benchmarks solved by someone: 021, 016, 033. Never solved by anyone in this run: 005, 028.
Reading it through this course's lens¶
Turn count tracks something real, and it isn't just "thoroughness."
sonnet-4.5 solved 033 in 273 turns — more than double the next-highest
solver (kimi-k2.5, 110 turns) — and timed out on all four other tasks.
minimax-m2.5 and glm-5 both solved two tasks each in under 110 turns.

That's not evidence that more turns is bad; it's evidence that this particular benchmark design rewards models that converge fast more than it rewards models that eventually get there. A harness's turn/timeout budget is itself a scope decision (L02) — set it wrong and you're measuring budget tolerance, not capability.
Zero solves is not the same failure mode every time. devstral-2-123b
mostly misses — it ran to completion without finding the vulnerability.
gpt-oss-120b mostly incompls — something about its run didn't complete
the methodology at all. deepseek-v3.2 has two invalids — the engine
never drove those two attempts. Collapsing all three into "0 solves"
in a leaderboard throws away exactly the triage information L03 argues for:
you cannot tell "the model tried and failed" from "the harness never gave it
a fair shot" without keeping the failure category, not just the verdict.
No benchmark is universally solved, and that's useful information too. 021, 016, and 033 were each solved by at least one model; 005 and 028 were not solved by anyone in this run. A benchmark nobody solves is either genuinely harder, or has a methodology bug shared by every attempt — the only way to tell the difference is to look at why every attempt on 005 and 028 failed, the same triage discipline from L03 applied across models instead of within one.
This is exactly the kind of data EvoBench exists to use. Every miss
and t/o row above is a candidate regression task: a specific model, on a
specific benchmark, with a specific recorded failure mode. See
E02 for what happens when one of those
failures gets mined instead of just logged.
